Karen Shore founded Upstream Strategies in 2019, after a 20 year career in the nonprofit and public health sectors led her to recognize the need for new and innovative ways to address what has been a growing and seemingly intractable challenge: preventing chronic disease in America.


Upstream Strategies provides unparalleled expertise and support to federal, state, and local organizations seeking to develop, improve, and scale innovative and efficient food is medicine and nutrition teams, strategies, and programs.


With deep grassroots and programmatic credentials blended with years of experience providing strategic leadership and advisory services to public and private sector health organizations, Karen maintains a vast network of organizations, business leaders, and ag partners working on food is medicine and chronic disease prevention in rural and urban communities across the country. She is a DrPH candidate in Health Policy at Johns Hopkins, where she earned her MPH, and holds a BA from Smith College.
